Teaching is an essential profession. Throughout history, teachers have shaped society and the people around themselves by provoking thought, instructing reading and writing, and raising questions. Many great historical thinkers and philosophers were teachers as well. It is difficult to imagine a society without teachers. The ability to teach requires many specific qualities. Three qualities that are necessary for becoming an excellent teacher are wisdom, passion, and the desire to learn.
Wisdom is essential for a teacher. Teachers must have an extensive knowledge of the subject matter in which they are instructing. They must also be able to convey the material in a way that enables students to learn effectively. Making decisions within a classroom also requires wisdom and understanding. Teachers need to have the ability to “think on their feet” when something does not go as planned.

Philosophy of Education

Effective educators must also have the desire to learn. Teachers must constantly be reading and reviewing information that allows them to stay informed within their position. Teachers need to be updated on concerns that arise within both school and the global community, as concerns may affect students. They also must be willing to realize that as teachers they may learn from their students, and an open mind is crucial. Each student is intelligent in a very specific way, and teachers need to be receptive to an array of opinions and how these opinions may have formed throughout the lives of students. Teachers have the ability to learn so much from their students; as instructors, they must first have the desire to learn.
In conclusion, wisdom, passion, and the desire to learn are three qualities that are necessary for teachers. Although many other qualities are essential for an educator, these three qualities allow teachers to achieve excellence. In turn, this excellence will be seen among the students that the teacher has the opportunity to instruct.

Teachers must also be passionate about educating their students. They must be able to work well with others, as they are consistently interacting with other faculty members, parents, and students. Educators must also be willing to devote time to listening to and caring for their students. Being passionate about education concerns both the student and the subject. Teachers must encourage their students and offer inspiration on a daily basis. Encouragement is so crucial in a world that is both demanding and critical. By motivating and inspiring students within their classroom, a teacher will be able to see a mirrored image of his or her own passion for education in the lives of the students.
